INVESTORS TARGET KOALAS AFTER KOOKABURRA SALES SUCCESS
The 2013 Australian Kookaburra 1oz silver bullion coin is no longer available from The Perth Mint.

The revised maximum mintage of 500,000 coins was reached last week and no further 2013-dated 1oz Kookaburras will be manufactured.

Investors looking for the convenience of a 1oz coin are now targeting the unlimited 1oz 2013 Australian Koala. Featuring an outstanding design of a koala in the fork of a tree, it is identical in all other respects to the Kookaburra.

Check out the Mint’s full line-up of available Australian silver bullion coins, including 10oz and 1 kilo Kookaburras, as well as all our remaining Lunar Snake coins today.

APRIL/MAY GRAPH - AUD

April May Price Chart

As we go to press, gold futures in New York have just closed at their highest level in nearly a month. Gold is reported to have been exiting ETFs since April’s sell-off, but demand for physical gold has ballooned with Mints worldwide struggling to produce enough coins and bars. While many investors in the West might be lukewarm to gold’s prospect at present, much of the physical is headed to Asia where China, India, Dubai and others are all said to have seen huge surges in demand. Wednesday saw the price of gold climb US$24.90, or 1.7%, to settle at US$1,473.70 on the Comex. Silver, meanwhile, rebounded 12 cents to US$23.93 an ounce.
