Sydney Festival 10 January – 31 January 2009 For three weeks in January Sydney Festival offers a rich program of around 80 events involving upwards of 500 artists from Australia
and overseas.
Just some of the highlights are:
- Canada's theatre genius Robert Lepage, with his latest show
- Lipsynch; Christopher Wheeldon's breathtakingly ballet Morphoses
- the Sydney Theatre Company's audacious The War of the Roses by William Shakespeare starring co-artistic director Cate Blanchett
- the outrageous Grace Jones at the Enmore Theatre
- a day out at Cockatoo Island to experience All Tomorrow's Parties headlined and curated by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
- the absolute best of traditional Irish music with Masters of Tradition
- Matthew Herbert's Big Band
- Mikhail Rudy and Misha Alperin play dual pianos in Double Dream
- the Australian debut of French chanteuse Camille
- indie-folk sensation Bon Iver
- and the UK's The Cinematic Orchestra
The Beck's Festival Bar and Samsung Mobile Festival Garden are also back. This year the Garden plays host not only to The Famous Speigeltent, but also the intimate Bosco Theater.
The Tix for Next to Nix program is back, offering $25 tickets to all shows in the program on the day of the performance. Festival First Night lets you sample some of the best on offer for free and a brand new program has been curated for kids and families at Parramatta.
